We left Saskatoon and traveled on the Trans-Canada until we reached Route 40 and later it became Route 14 in Alberta. This is the southern route and took us across the Prairie. It was an easy, beautiful ride with lots of open space and some gentle rolling terrain. There is not much but nature to see and we like that.
Coming into Edmonton was fairly easy and we ended up staying out on the west side off Route 16a. in a campground called Happy Trails. We stayed in a campground called Happy Trails. They had pull-thru sites on gravel at the back of the grounds. We ventured into the Fort Edmonton area and found a 1 mile walk out to the foot bridge that crosses the Saskatchewan River. The foot bridge connects the east and west sides of the river. The bridge was built in 2010, and is a modern suspension bridge. There were a number of walkers, joggers and bikers out on this warm, partly sunny day.
As we continued on, we drove into the university area and up into the city. The city feels new and crisp with so much diversity. People seemed happy. There is also a great deal of new construction on the west side of town indicating prosperity for the area.
We were able to go to the Edmonton West Side Mall. It is the largest mall in Canada. The mall has a waterpark with a huge wave pool, Ice Skating rink, Hotel and so many stores. We especially liked the Asian Market. There were many different foods, vegetables and meats. The incredible variety of live fish, crabs, lobsters and meats were delightful.
We caught up with our new Florida friends in Happy Trails. It is always wonderful to visit with folks on the road as there is always so much to share and learn.
